B.SC IN NAUTICAL SCIENCE

B.Sc in Nautical Science is a 3-year undergraduate course that focuses on providing students with the necessary knowledge and skills required to become a deck officer in the merchant navy and it is divided into six semesters. This course is designed to prepare students for a career in the shipping industry and offers a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical training.

About The Course

The course curriculum covers a range of topics related to shipping and nautical science, including ship stability, navigation, meteorology, ship construction, cargo handling, communication, maritime law, and marine pollution prevention. Students will also receive Basic STCW training in firefighting, first aid, survival at sea, and other essential skills during the course.

After the course, students will be required to undergo a mandatory 12 months of sea training on board ships, which will enable them to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of ship operations, including navigation, cargo handling, and maintenance whilst following training record books.

Duration: 3 years (Full Time)+ 12 months of onboard ship training.

Accreditation Authority: Approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India.

Eligibility Criteria

Academic:

Pass in 12th standard or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60%.
The candidate must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in the English language in the 10th & 12th standard exam.

Note:

The candidate must have passed the 10th and 12th standards from a recognized board

Admission Test:

SOMS Entrance Exams
Qualified in IMU Common Entrance Test (CET)
Shipping Company Sponsorship Test (SCST)

Age:

The maximum age limit is 25 years.

Medical:

Candidates must be medically fit including eyesight and hearing as prescribed in the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000, as amended.
No color blindness.
